The authors report the pneumoencephalographic results in the 17 patients sustained the disturbed mentality over 3 weeks following serious craniocerbral injury. They preserved all normal cerebrospinal fluid pressure.
The summaries are as follewings :
1) They had all normal cerebrospinal fluid pressure with a range of 80 to 170 mm in water in the lateral recumbent position and no chemical abnormalities in the cerebrospinal fluid.
2) On the pneumoencephalograms, eleven of them had ventricular dilatation and of these 11, 5 had normal pressure hydrocephalus and 6 had hydrocehalus ex vacuo. Remained 6 cases had normal findings.
3) One of 5 cases of normal pressure hydrocephalus and 6 cases of normal findings on pneumoencephalograms recovered spontaneously later.
